Local impact guided by global expertise

We design solutions that can work anywhere in the world, and we sell our products globally. But the most visible impact we see is at the local level — often within walking distance of the places Alcom operates. Real impact on local communities is profound, extending from better harvests to an improved local environment.
One facility, many benefits
Beyond its climate impact, a single Alcom biochar facility benefits the community around it. It delivers green economy jobs, generates electricity in regions prone to brownouts, and improves farmers' livelihoods through biochar-based fertilisers that increase crop yields — and cut down on fly infestations at poultry farms.

Extra income and better livelihoods for farmers
Spreading biochar-based fertilisers on farmland increased rice, onion, and other crop harvests significantly, our field tests in the Philippines showed. This improved farmers' livelihoods in at least two ways: by reducing the need to buy chemical fertilisers and increasing the crops a farmer could sell.
Source: agricultural research conducted by Alcom and affiliated researchers at 50+ farms in Nueva Ecija province, Philippines, 2024.

Farmers' rice yields rose 25% on average after applying our biochar-based fertiliser blends, compared to prior harvests on the same farm plots.

Onion harvests rose 61% on average, with some plots showing a 100% increase after applying our biofertilisers.

Field tests also showed an average decrease in bags of fertiliser needed to achieve these higher crop yields, suggesting that biochar-based fertilisers reduce farmers' costs while improving their market income potential.
